At the time of M&A, a foreign-affiliated company had to shoulder huge workload as it was a case of merger of two global companies. Integration of businesses within Japan alone covered a wide range of tasks including integration of ICT, sales, marketing, finance and control, product development, manufacturing, service, operation and human affairs, and the time given was limited to accomplish many aspects of the integration.
PM Global supported Post Merger Integration (PMI) Office to be able to play a key role in accurately monitoring integration update. As leveraging Integration Update Score Card which was being used globally, reports were issued to global PMI headquarters and the high visibility of daily activities were secured for Japanese top management. While PMI team members of two companies were very busy as they had integration tasks besides their original duties, we provided strong support. We attended global telephone conferences which were held early morning or midnight regardless of time differences and quite often joined overseas trips physically. When coming across contingent situations which were not in the pre-merger plan or some other issues, PMI demonstrated active involvement, contacting responsible persons in Japan, driving escalation to global PMI headquarters for solution and helping to identify roles and responsibilities.
As a result of taking these actions, the corporate integration was completed as originally planned. PM Global will strongly support M&A between Japanese companies and promising foreign-affiliated companies as well as M&A among foreign-affiliated companies.
