New Column: Passion for Projects — The Power of Determination
Recently, I watched an episode of the Japanese TV program Project X: The Challengers-New Beginnings, titled “Shohei Ohtani’s Two-Way Success — How the ‘Outsiders’ Changed Baseball History.” The program explored the challenges and struggles behind Ohtani’s achievement as both a pitcher and a batter.
What I found particularly interesting was that the program focused not only on strategy or technique, but also on the determination and conviction of the people involved in making the idea a reality.
The program introduced a series of difficulties: criticism when results did not come immediately, tension within the team over the special treatment given to Ohtani, and the complex fitness management required to support him as both a pitcher and a hitter. What impressed me most was the strong resolve shown by everyone involved.
In the projects we work on, problems constantly arise as well. Deadlines become difficult to meet, quality improvements do not progress as expected, resources fall short, and budgets go over plan — the list goes on.
Of course, giving up is always an option. However, every project has a reason why it must move forward, and every challenge contains opportunities for future growth. That is why we cannot simply walk away.
In the end, I believe what matters most is determination. Just as the people around Ohtani continued to push forward, many projects ultimately test the strength of our resolve.
When we have determination, we find the wisdom to overcome difficulties. It gives us the strength to create the future, and above all, it becomes a source of motivation for ourselves.
Our projects may never be featured on television. Even so, I believe that every project site holds the same level of passion and commitment as the people we saw in that program.
That is why I find great meaning and fulfillment in moving projects forward together with my colleagues.
